Mike and I visited Kralendijk, Bonaire when we were taking a cruise in the Caribbean Netherlands, and here they incorporate African, Caribbean and European influences. Kralendijk, the capital city and main port of the island of Bonaire, is a lively and colorful Caribbean town centre. We took a stroll down the colorful streets enjoying the Caribbean architecture while shopping in the main street of Kaya Grandi and the market on the Wilhelmina square with island-made products.
One of the top things to do in Bonaire, besides diving the coral reef, is to explore its capital. The capital of Bonaire is Kralendijk meaning coral dike, but locals call it “playa” meaning “beach.” It’s a tiny town and the entire grid can easily be covered on foot. You’ll discover cool stuff like colourful shops, art galleries, cafés, arcades, restaurants, bars and public squares.
Located just north of Venezuela and out of the hurricane zone, Bonaire is a year-round destination with one of the most diverse coral reef habitats within the Caribbean. The weather is usually close to the same year round. The water was so blue and we had a time exploring Bonaire.
