Aurora Borealis, Samish Islands, Washington

Mike hand I have been chasing the Aurora Borealis for about 5 years now and we got to see a little bit on Samish Island, Washington State. On average, the Northern Lights are visible in Washington State 2 or 3 x per year. The most common to see them is between 10 pm and 2 am.

Samish Island is considered one of the “inner San Juan Islands” along with Guemes, Eliza, Vendovi, Lummi, Cypress, Sinclair, and other small islands to the east of the larger San Juan Islands.

Samish Island is a residential island community with limited services and small businesses. There is no “island center” or town with coffee shops, small shops, and it's about 15-25 miles from anywhere, so not a lot of lights. This is exactly why we discussed to come here to see the Aurora show.
